Magoo's Portfolio

Magoo’s Nemesis For some 40 years I have had the desire to learn how to play the banjo. I have taken lessons from no less than three instructors, yet the ability to play like I want still escapes me. Select Size:
8 X 13 $25.00 USD 13 X 17 $40.00 USD

Town of Harrisburg Log Cabin My sister always wanted me to paint a log cabin for her. Here’s a restored cabin I visited while in Harrisburg, NC. It was lived in until 1992. She also always wanted a split-rail fence. Now she has both. I wish she could have been born 100 years earlier and enjoyed “all the comforts” this kind of lifestyle would have provided her with! 2012 Edition: 500 – Two Image sizes 6 x 11 – $25 or 10 x 17 – $50

That Old Fiddle on the Wall That’s a song sung by Michelle Cupit. Her husband, Jerry, wrote the song based on Michelle’s childhood memories of growing up always seeing her father’s fiddle hanging on the wall. This is not that specific fiddle, but it is one of her father’s favorites. There are some “scrapes and bruises” from years of use, but that only adds character to it. 2010 Edition: 500 – Two Image sizes 9 x 13 – $25 or 11 x 16 – $45

Sizes

Whitworth Memorial Baptist Church (Snow) I often wondered what this church would look like in a snow scene at night. In 2009 I found out. It had snowed and because I was so engrossed in finding out I drove to the church to take photos even though I hate having to drive in snow. It may have been cold outside, but I’m sure there was warmth and joy inside! 2009 Edition: 500 – Two Image sizes 14 x 17 – $35 or 21 x 26 – $45

Sizes
14 X 17 $35.00 USD 21 X 26 $45.00 USD

Pa’s Barn This old barn was handsome in its day. But there’s been a lot of winters pass with their snow and ice and howling wind. The summer sun’s beat down on it till all the paint’s gone, and the old barn leans a good deal.   Only years of standing in the weather, bearing the storms and scorching sun — only that can produce beautiful barn wood.   We’re a lot like that. Only it’s on the inside that the beauty grows with us. We turn silver gray too. . .and lean a bit more than we did when we were young.  But the Good Lord knows what He’s doing.   And as the years pass He’s busy using the hard weather of our lives, to do a job of beautifying our souls that nothing else can produce. And I suspect we’ll be more beautiful when He calls us home for the seasons we’ve been through here. . .and just maybe even add a bit ofbeauty to our Father’s house.  — AUTHOR UNKNOWN 2009 Edition: 500 – Two Image sizes 9 x 13 – $30 or 13 x 18 – $45

Eking Out a Living Too often today throughout the world we witness far
too many poor lacking sufficient money to live at a standard considered comfortable or normal in society. Sadly, the gap between the rich and the poor has widened. 2019 Edition: NFS

First Baptist Church Santa Fe, New Mexico Painted from a photograph my wife took while we were on vacation in New Mexico. Couldn’t help but admire the architecture which was the traditional way many of the buildings were built in Santa Fe back in the 1800s. 2018 Edition: 500 – 15 x 11—$25

The Long Horn This was taken from a photo on a trip out west.
It reminds me of a movie I once saw about a Long Horn Steer subjected to the cold winter out west. The rancher was concerned it wouldn’t survive the weather. Come Spring, it (and her calf) made it! 2014 Edition: 500 – 16 x 13 – $25

Mabry’s Mill, Meadows of Dan, VA This painting was painted by my father in 1972, but was severely damaged by smoke in a fire in 2005. Only the original image was left intact. I used this image and painted over it adding color. 2014 Edition: 500 – 19 x 13 – $30

Hobo’s Mandolin
This here mandolin is carved out of pine
It was willed to me by an old hobo, way down the line . . .
from the song: hobo’s mandolin by tom rush

This is my experiment with cubism, however it seemed to have turned out more abstract than cubism! 2019 Edition: 500 – 12 x 16 – $30

Mission San Juan Capistrano Mission San Juan Capistrano was founded in 1731 by Spanish Catholics of the Franciscan Order in present-day San Antonio, Texas. The mission San Juan was named after Saint John of Capestrano.

For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.—2 Corinthians 4:6 2018 Edition: 500 – 12 x 15 – $25

The Old Red Truck Dilapidated vehicles that have seen their best days are often found in and near barns in the South, as are barns which are often decorated with quilts, and signs, etc. Here the owner chose to show his patriotism by painting an American Flag on the barn.

The old truck has seen it’s last days, but somewhere out there is someone who can restore this old delapidated piece of steel to an even better condition than when it come off the showroom floor. If you feel as though your life is much like this old truck, there is someone who can restore your life to one of use and give you salvation.

And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.—1 Peter 5:10

2019 Edition: 500 – 14.75 x 10.75 – $30

The Lighthouse

And I thank God for the lighthouse I owe my life to Him
For Jesus is the lighthouse and from the rocks of sin

—From the song Lighthouse written by Ronnie Hinson

The Reception
Another experiment in cubism. The original design
was a collage for an assignment while in college.
The images were taken from an advertisement in a
magazine. I think this turned out better than the
original—and yes, I do think it does look a little
like cubism! 2019 Edition: 500 – 12.5 x 16.5 – $30

Old Mill, My father was infatuated by old mills. This painting was started by him back in the last century sometime. We found it partially completed while going through some things after his passing. Dad had sketched the image and painted the mill house, but the rest was left for my imagination. I used his image and painted it using my inventiveness as to what he may have intended. 2019 Edition: 500 – 14 x 10.5 – $30

Grapes and Lemons
God has provided us with a bountiful harvest. Let us be mindful of those who are less fortunate: Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the foreigner. I am the LORD your God.
—Leviticus 19:10 2010 Edition: NFS

Long Journey Back to Christ
This painting was specifically painted to be used for the cover of my autobiography, “Long Journey Back to Christ.” It depicts the progression of my prodigal son journey back to Christ. You will notice the bottom of the picture is desolate terrain consisting of cactus, rock and other debris. But as you look upward toward the Cross, you will notice the terrain gets greener and more lush in vegetation—even flowers. 2020 NFS
